Godson 2E Performance Reaches Pentium 4 Level

It is reported that Chinese scientists announced in September 13th in Beijing the successful development of the new generation of universal central processor chip - Godson 2E.

The National 863 project, "Godson 2 enhanced processor chip design" (dragon core 2E), which was undertaken by the Institute of computing technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was approved by experts on the 13 day. The performance of China's autonomous chip has gone up to a new level, including 47 million pistors, an area of about two thumb tip covers, and a power consumption ranging from 3 watts to 8 watts.

The acceptance experts believe that the Godson 2E has reached the international advanced level in the design of the single processor, and it is a CPU chip with independent intellectual property rights.

According to Li Guojie, director of the Institute of computing technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, "our performance has increased by 2 times in a year."

This tells people that GM CPU is not a restricted area, and Chinese people can find a way to survive and develop in the field of patent chips.

According to the introduction, during the "fifteen" period, the CAS Institute of computing is supported by the 863 plan. Following the successful development of Godson 1 processor chip in 2002, in recent years, different models of Godson 2 were developed, including Godson 2B, Godson 2C, Godson 2E, and each chip's performance is 3 times the performance of the previous core chip, thus achieving the leapfrog development of the general processor design.

As a universal 64 bit processor, Godson 2E has become the world's most versatile processor in addition to the US and Japan. It is also the first processor to adopt 90 nanometer design technology in mainland China, and its performance has reached the level of mid-range Pentium IV processor.

The maximum frequency of the processor reaches 1.0GHz, and the peak operation speed reaches 4 billion double precision floating point operations per second.

Li Guojie, especially for rumors, pointed out that after careful analysis and textual research, Godson 2E has its own intellectual property rights, and there is no patent dispute.

It is understood that Xu Guanhua, Minister of science and technology, gave full recognition to the chip at the briefing session. He pointed out that the CAS Institute of computing and other units were not arrogant and impetuously and worked hard to overcome a large number of key core technologies, such as universal high-performance chips with independent intellectual property rights, and developed a batch of landmark achievements represented by Godson 2E, which contributed to speeding up the construction of China's national innovation system and enhancing the independent innovation ability of science and technology in China. In practice, it has stepped out of a road of technological innovation with Chinese characteristics.

In the process of development, the research group applied for 12 invention patents and published 39 papers.

At present, the Godson 2E processor has started mass production and will be on sale before the end of 2006.

The Godson research group is also designing the multi core processor of Godson 3.
